17th - 19th June, 2011
This weekend two of the province attended the second annual INVOCATION weekend at Oscott College, Birmingham. Anne Lee and Teresa Britain arrived on Friday evening to find an
enormous marquee, big enough for the three hundred participants to gather for the key note speeches and to eat our meals. It was next to a beautiful Tepee which was used to 'Chill Out'. The Coffee Bar in the Tepee was run by the youth of Birmingham diocese who are attending the World Youth Day in Madrid this summer. They did a great job in keeping us supplied with tea and coffee throughout the weekend.
We had three key note speeches which were all very good. The discerners had a wide selection of workshops to attend, we heard echoes that they were great. The religious and priests who were there had their own workshops which were also excellent. We also had Mass each day and time for Morning and Evening Prayer. On Saturday evening there was a Holy hour with the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Perhaps some of the most important elements of the weekend were the conversations which happened in the free time or in the queues for meals and at the coffee bar in the Tepee
The whole weekend was a great picture of the Church, with young people who were asking serious questions about where God was leading them, alongside religious and priests who were still striving to be respond to wherever God is calling.
