Our Lady of Sion Pupil takes part in Junior Mathematical Olympiad
Matthew Linter, a pupil in Year 8 at Our Lady of Sion School, took part in the UK Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge in April, along with 53 other pupils from his year. The challenge is open to the top third of pupils, in Year 8 or below, in schools nationwide. Five pupils, including Matthew, achieved Gold awards, eleven received silver awards, and eighteen bronze awards. Matthew scored 103 out of 135 available marks, and his high score qualified him for the Junior Mathematical Olympiad; one of a small percentage of pupils nationwide to qualify.
Matthew sat the Olympiad two-hour paper, which is an in-depth Maths paper, recently. The paper is very challenging and very rigorous, and Matthew will not know the result for a few weeks, but hopes he has done well. Head of Maths, Mr. Hoarty, said; ‘Matt has done very well to get such a high score, we are pleased for him that he got through to the Olympiad.’
