Golden Jubilee of Sr Carolyn Wicks
We had a wonderful celebration of my Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession on January 2nd here in Noddfa Spirituality Centre.
I was joined by fifteen sisters of the congregation of Our Lady of Sion, members of my family, friends from the local parish and a work colleague. Father Tom O’Brien MHM celebrated Mass with us, Brenda McCole, our Provincial gave a memorable and moving homily, Brenda and Anne Lee provided the music, everyone who could participated in the Circle Dance to the Magnificat. My nephew’s children lit the candles, which were the colours of the rainbow, with Phil Conroy during the Rainbow of Thanksgiving and Petition, and all the children present enhanced the music with their playing of instruments. It was a real celebration and everyone felt included and the attractive leaflet was
created by Judith. The rainbow pictures included were stunning. The rainbow is important to me as a sign of God’s great love.
After Mass we all enjoyed a delicious meal provided by the Noddfa Community and Anne McArdle. It was a whole day of celebrations ending with mouthwatering delicacies for supper and then music to sing and dance to provided by ‘Rocking Ron’. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was lovely to be able to share this with all who came.
We remembered Sister Mary Carmen very specially, who was also celebrating her Golden Jubilee in Alexandria on the same day. We had been in the Novitiate together in Acton Burnell Shropshire, much water has passed under the bridge since those days.
I thank God for the gift of each person who has been part of my journey over the last 50 years of Professed Religious Life, and all those who came to share with me on this very special day.
