Sion Centre for Dialogue and Encounter

Sion Centre for Dialogue and Encounter, run by the Sisters of Sion, provides a safe place where people of different faiths can meet together to learn, exchange and grow in understanding of each other.

We offer courses on various aspects of interreligious dialogue especially between Christians and Jews. The speakers are all experts in their field. One recent course examined Christian and Jewish interpretations of biblical texts. Another studied aspects of slavery and freedom to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. Richard Reddie, Director of Set all free, gave the first lecture.

We also arrange Reflection Days at special momentsicon in the year for Christians – Advent, Lent and Pentecost. In-put on a seasonal theme is given by the SCDE Team. Those who attended the Advent reflection day really appreciated the time and space to reflect during the busy days leading up to Christmas.

Our Exploring Spirituality series and Seminars are very popular. Several times a year we ask a leading spiritual thinker from different faiths to share their thoughts on a particular theme.

Our Reading Library is open to anyone who wishes to explore the topics being studied and to further his/her knowledge. Students from Heythrop College use this facility when studying here. Post graduate and research students find the collection particularly useful. The main categories of books held are: Biblical and Jewish Studies, Theology, Christian-Jewish Relations, Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust. There is also a section of books for use in schools. The Czech Scroll is a focal point and teaching tool for any visitor.
