Province Weekend May 2009

Twentyfive members of the province met for a Study Weekend at the beginning of May. The subject for our study was the recent Synod on the Word of God which took place last October in Rome. We were priviledged to have Fr Tom Rosica, CSB as our speaker.

Fr Tom had been one of the English Speaking Secretaries of the Synod, and had first hand experience of its day to day running. We were given insights into the discussions of the synod as well as some of the practical aspects of how a synod is organised. Some of the subjects Tom covered were:

• Modern Biblical Research
• Lectio Divina
• The influence of the Holy Land on our understanding of Scripture
• The necesity of ongoing Biblical Formation for Priests and laity
• The richness of studying Scripture using Jewish sources as well as Christian ones.

We are looking forward to reading the documents which the synod will produce.
