Job 38:8-11 Psalm 106 2 Corinthians 5:14-17 Mark 4:35-41 The readings today focus our attention on divine powers. In the first reading today, God responded to Job who had questioned the reasons for his own suffering. Who, God asked, made the seas with all their power? Job then became aware of himself as part of creation under God's authority. . The psalm today echoes the same teaching about the power of God's word. Let the it resound in your heart as you pray with it today.I In the Gospel the disciples of Jesus were in a boat on the lake and found themselves caught in a storm. In the Ancient Near East the sea symbolised the powers of chaos and evil that struggle against God. So when Jesus calmed the waters it prompted the disciples to ask, "Who can this be?" The Gospel is emphasising the divine character of Jesus, for Jesus does what God does. Imagine yourself in the boat with Jesus. Have you enough faith to allow him to still the storms in your own life? In response repeat in your heart, "O give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures for ever."
