33rd Sunday of the yearMalachi 3:19-20Psalm 97 2Thessalonians 3:7-12 Luke 21:5-19 At the time of Jesus' ministry, Jerusalem was facing a crisis and was to be destroyed just a few decades later. In the gospel, Luke puts this imminent disaster into cosmic proportions and extends his warnings to include the entire world. Jesus expects that his disciples would meet the same kind of controversy as himself but promises that he will strengthen them. In the letter to the Thessalonians Paul encourages the community to go on working quietly and not to expect to be supported without making a contribution. |
