Acts 13:14, 43-52 Psalm 100 Revelation 7:9, 14-17 John 10:27-30 In the first reading we hear how Paul and Barnabas took the Christian message to the pagans. Quoting the prophet Isaiah," I have made you a light for the nations, so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth", they show that God intended his salvation to extend to all peoples In the extract from the book of the Apocalypse or Revelation there is an image of heaven with people gathered from all over the world, free from pain and sorrow. They are brought into the presence of God through the work of Jesus who is both the Lamb of God and also the shepherd who leads them to life. The gospel reading is concerned with the identity of Jesus. He has already made a public statement about who he is using the divine designation "I Am". Here Jesus identifies himself as the shepherd, one with the Father. To those who recognise him and follow, there is the promise of eternal life. Do we recognise Jesus, the shepherd? Today is Vocation Sunday. Let us listen to his voice calling us to service and respond with open hearts. |
