Ezekiel 34:11-12 Psalm 23 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26.28 Matthew 25:31-46 When the people of Israel had been "scattered" into exile, the prophet Ezekiel gave them consolation and hope by declaring that God himself would be their shepherd, gathering them together and providing pasture for them. He would also be their judge. Today's psalm echoes the pastoral image of the Lord and the care he shows for each of his flock. The theme of the shepherd separating the sheep from the goats is taken up in today's gospel. The Son of Man, a title Jesus applies to himself, is seated as a King on the throne of glory administering justice. Those who enter into the kingdom are those who serve the needy because by doing so they serve Christ. This week let us show our love for Christ our King by serving the needy in one of the ways mentioned in the gospel. And if we feel we have strayed let the Lord, our Shepherd, bring us back and bind up our wounds. Then we will experience the joy of the kingdom he has prepared for us. |
